IMO, Belinda Bryan *DOES* exist, but Jeff can be excused for
thinking she was merely another of Burnore's many sock puppets.
Some have indicated that Gary Burnore left California not only to
avoid registering as a sex offender under Megan's Law, but also to
marry Belinda.
What's really clever about Belinda's letter where she impersonated a
lawyer is that she wasn't a California resident and Gary personally
delivered the letter to Jeff just to avoid being prosecuted for mail
fraud!
The sad thing about the SPA is that they undoubtedly didn't know
they were being duped by an anonymous tipster who also was
responsible for posting the bogus "warez" ad through Mailmasher.
Or, even if they did, they decided to shut Mailmasher down just to
prove they could get away with it. My guess is that the offer to
sell a CD-ROM of pirated software was either totally fabricated, or
else it was one that someone received as e-mailed spam and simply
altered a bit and resent through Mailmasher to provide a pretext to
get the SPA on their case.

You'd have to ask Mr. Burnore why he keeps allowing people to push
his buttons and then lashing out at remailers, privacy, anonymity,
etc. If, the next time such critics as Victor, Tim, etc. say "Hey
Gary, you're a convicted molester" he would simply ignore the taunt
or reply "Yes I am. I admit it. And your point is?", the thread
would end quickly.
But Gary seems to still be in total denial and uses each such
occasion to promote his agenda that remailer users are all "anon
assholes", harassers, abusers, etc. It wouldn't be worth correcting
his disinformation, if it weren't for the fact that each time he
goes on a tirade he gets his anti-remailer message into the hands of
people new to this dispute who believe his false accusations against
Jeff Burchell, the Huge Cajones Remailer, and its users.
The only way to combat disinformation, and faux-litigation tactics,
is to put the true facts on the table each time. In the case of
another abusive net-kook, the self-proclaimed "Rev." Steve Winter,
a successful tactic was to produce a "Steve Winter FAQ". Anyone who
is targeted by his harassment tactics, such as false accusations to
the person's employer, frivolous police complaints, etc. can simply
give the contact people a copy of the FAQ so that they can see how
Winter operates. Maybe something similar is needed for Burnore.
