 For starters he was a friend of mine. For another he was crippled years 
ago by MS and spent a lot of painful time in the hospital the last few 
years ago. Carl was the son of a non-Hispanic whose family had a 
tradition of naming one male in each generation Carlos (I have no idea 
why) Carl was a national chmapion long distance shooter who had 93 
confirmed  kills in Viet Nam (the figure was probably closer to 200, but 
he refused to take credit for any he did not see go down himself) he was 
a quite unassuming man who simply did his job ... albeit better than 
almost anyone else could do it ... for several of his missions he should 
have received a Navy Cross or even a MOH for actions above and beynd the 
call of duty, but it was not politically correct to give medals to 
snipers!
