Chaum and Brands

Whatever happened to David Chaum?  I know that Digicash went belly up, but 
what has Chaum moved on to?

Any ideas what ZeroKnowledge intends to do with Brands?  I've heard that 
they intend to offer some form of electronic cash, but how far can they 
seriously hope to go with privacy with a Canadian company?  I keep waiting 
for the feds to crack down on freedom.net.

It's been a long time since the Cryptoanarchist Manifesto was published,
 and it seems like we've only gone backwards since then.
