Yesterday's necessity is today's multi-purpose objet d'art for Shirley
Archer (brmtnhawk) of Haymarket, Virginia. "I've made them into planters,
toilet paper holders, and even Easter baskets and candy dishes," Shirley
says. The collection? Seventy-two !

When nature called, in the days before indoor plumbing, folks reached for
the lidded, single-handled 7- to 11-inch-diameter pots (children used
small "potties"). A favorite of Shirley's is a dragon-handled,
cream-colored beauty won on eBay for $93 ("but worth about $150"). Many
pots matched patterns featuring flowers, animals, and landscapes.
