ANX is the Automotive Network Exchange, which is basically supposed to be a
network service which ties many trading partners together (initially in the
Automotive industry). The idea is, the ANX provides an infrastructure with
increased quaility of service guarantees (there are limits
on end to end latency, minimum bandwidth, etc), and runs on an ATM network
which may or may not be commingled with the Internet (not specified by ANXO
which is Telcordia Technologies, the Automotive Network Exchange Overseer).
Using the vast ATM cloud, trading partners can communicate
without having to build their own networks (more costly), and do not have to
rely on the unreliable public Internet. It's supposed to be a "best of both
worlds" approach. ISP's now often offer packages which may include both ANX
and Internet access for reduced rates. You can get
information at http://www.anxo.com.
