Simply put, and hopefully objective enough to avoid
starting religious wars:
- OpenBSD is built with security as its number one priority.
"No features are added unless they are secure".
- FreeBSD is more of a compromise between adding new features
and doing so in a secure manner. "Users need to be able
to actually USE the damn thing, too! :)"
This usually means that FreeBSD has a tendency of ending up
inside firewalls where the users aren't quite as unfriendly
and you often need lots of features, while OpenBSD is often
used on bastion hosts (firewalls, public servers, etc) where
"lots of features" aren't required, but security is.
