Allow me to kick the dog, too.  For personal use, you can get a copy of
Solaris for x86 or SPARC for the cost of shipping the CDs.  Go to
www.sun.com and look for the developer programs.  Somewhere under there is
the free(ish) non-commercial Solaris offer.
