Flames not intended (if perceived), I just don't understand...

This is the second time this week I have heard the below statement made. I
am curious, are you talking about implemented via email(with data sent back
as forth as payload data in an actual email) or implemented by using the
email "standard ports" 25,109,110, etc?

I mean, I have seen NFS implemented on the NFS ports that didn't work all
that great! ;-) (but it was PC client's trying to talk to Unix servers -
Unix to Unix worked as expected)
