Access Serv comparison SECwise and insights

hi,
   trying to make a security based eval of the
following Commercial RAS/Router companies as opposed to a hand rolled 
Unix box solution but could stand for some help.. from a not necessarily in
that order;-)) 
security,ROI,most-extending-1/2Life4newServices,support,cost,TCO 
point of view what are the opinions on. Supporting  Dialup 56kppp connections
with authentication hopefully doable by both radiusd builtin or separate
radiusd like cistrond and/or ace server,and/or biometrics. 33k works fine with
Cyclades but need to do @ least 56k.. Remote Access on this project..

have not  put any comments on the issues i am aware of with each of the
following RAS as i do not want to bias the replies in any way.. or create 
flame
wars..product  specifics would be welcome:-))
Livingston/PM3s 
Ciscos/2500s/4500s
Bays/ASNs
3Com/Totalcontrols 
but suppose looking for a why 4 how come..
