Jen,
Fore Systems has two really nice switches that provide wire-speed
firewalling via VLAN using Firewall-1.
ESX-2400
ESX-4800
This way you move the firewall ruleset to the LAN.
We are currently running a 2400 in our test lab and we are impressed so far.
Also, I believe ODS make something similar
