Thanks to all for your help. I have found the solution to my problem. The
SMTP daemon in fw1 3.0b was broken and is fixed by patch level 3064. I
ended up applying SP8 (patch level 3083) to fix the problem and as a bonus
bring me up to y2k compliance. Once I applied the fixes the firewall
started delivering all the mail stuck in my /etc/fw/spool directory.
