Well, as you know ms tracert (icmp) and ux traceroute (udp) works
differently. There was also a problem on installations pre-3072 patch, I
think.

Can someone give me an explanation of why microsofts icmp based tracert
function does not work or rather works wrong we get back time exceeded
messages. Unix udp based traceroute works correctly

also is this fixed in 4.o and if so how do you fix it
