hi,
  i would gladly try to explain it but it would take at least a
few days of typing to get it all out in painful detail..;-) 
do a search on pretty much any search engine for..
'secure socket layer' or look to netscape as it was their baby
initially.. sorry but i am having trouble describing it in 
straight forward words:()
