[FW1] VPN-1 Server separate from Firewall

Is it a simple matter to set up a VPM server separate
from one's Firewall - i.e. outside the routing path
that passes thru this Firewall?  Environment is FW1 v4.0.

Does one have to use NAT in order to accomplish this?
