[FW1] What's up with Nokia?
I'm posting this here because I know a lot of Nokia types monitor this
list. ;)
I'm faced with a small problem. I work for a reseller that has been
pushing FW-1 for a number of years. In the past when I've needed
speed/stability, I pushed clients towards running FW-1 on Sun. Over the
past year or so however I've seen the Sun platform develop more and more
problems running FW-1. Some of this has been due to the base OS itself
while others have been due to conflicts between the two products. I'm
also running into fewer organizations that are willing to support a Sun
box. In short, Solaris does not seem to be as good of an OS for running
FW-1 as it was a number of years ago.
I've seen a lot of positive feedback on the list regarding Nokia and
want to take one of these boxes for a spin. My original thought was to
replace the current FW-1 box we use to provide a secure ISP connection
for many of our clients. If the Nokia could deal with this type of a
traffic load (1,500+ concurrent sessions), I would have no problem
getting our sales group to start pushing it out to clients.
Here's where I hit my first snag. While we sell FW-1, we're being told
we're not a Nokia reseller and therefore must buy the product though one
of our competitors (at full price of course ;). Obviously I've met with
some resistance within my organization with regards to putting money in
the pockets of our competitors.
So my questions would be:
How does one go about becoming a Nokia reseller?
What are the requirements?
Who do you have to talk to? (the person who pushed us off to a
competitor could not answer this)
I'm also curious if you guys are shipping 4.x code yet.
Any and all help greatly appreciated,
Chris
