Take the course, study for a couple days, then take the exam while it is
till fresh in your mind.

Thanks for all the responses. Actually I'm taking the CCSA & CCSE
courses/training this week. Should I take the tests right after I finish
the courses or should I spend a couple of weeks practicing on FW-1? I'd
like to spend some time reading the training manuals and practicing on FW-1
so that I have a good understanding.

I think it makes a major difference where you get your training.
I got mine from UUNET in Reston, Virginia. The class was
basically a preparation for the tests, and as a result, I did
managed to pass both exams - barely - and in one day to
boot.
They are very difficult. To make matters worse, I took only
the CCSE class. One has to pass the CCSA exam before
one can take the CCSE exam. I would advise against taking
only the CCSE class, no matter how experienced you are,
as I found the CCSA to be as or more difficult than the
CCSE exam.
The questions are poorly worded and some are really and
truly wrong. For example, the master file is on the clients,
not the management station. One question screwed this up
completely. Who knows what the right answer really was.
