Subject: Alert: SP6a - Not yet!...but...
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Last week I told you that SP6a was available. This was based on the
fact that the SP6 download page stated SP6a (still does), I knew MS
was replacing SP6, and discussions about it being available seemed to
be confirmed.
Now I'm told by Microsoft that SP6a *has not yet been released*,
despite what the web pages say. This has also been confirmed
independently.
I have had reports from people who ordered the SP6 CD and when they
received it, were told by the MS fulfillment group that they had been
sent SP6a. I have another report that indicates if you order the SP6a
CD today, the expected shipping date is 12/27/99.
Go figure.
I'm honestly as confused as the rest of you, or more so, given I
created all of this confusion in the first place. I wish I could just
say that my original recommendation, to avoid the download and wait
for the CD, was made for this reason...but I don't think I'd get away
with that...;-]
MS has just confirmed to me that SP6a, the *real one*, is in the
process of being pushed out to their web points as I write this
message. When I get confirmation its really there, and I've downloaded
it and compared it to the SP6 versions, I send another note to the
list.
...what a tangled web I can weave, eh...;-[
