Re: [FW1] solaris & link bounce problems

The only time I saw this was when I was running the firewall server on a SUN
that was PCI based. Once I went to a SUN server that was SBUS, then this problem
went away. SUN could not tell me why, or fix the problem. They said it was
software related (ckpt) and CKPT said it was hardware based. Go figure...once we
changed over to SBUS it worked...
Hope this helps.

Subject: [FW1] solaris & link bounce problems

periodically, our firewalls report link down/link up bounces. the link down
state lasts for about 3 seconds and occurs perhaps once per week. we've
noticed this under both solaris 2.5.1 and 2.6 with fw3.0b and 4.0 (sp4).

the fw machines (14 in all) have 100mbit ethernet on both sides. the
switches that they are plugged into (different switches in various
locations) report the link down events also. we've ruled out the switches and
are focusing on the firewalls. we have other suns similarly configured, but
without the fw software on them, that never report spurious link down
events.

has anyone seen anything like this?

thx

jeff
