[FW1] Setting up a trace using the tcpdump command

Hello everyone,

I've got problems trying to get an external PC access to a server on our
DMZ.

I first want to make sure thier TCP packets (they are trying to telnet and
FTP in) are getting to our Firewall.

I've tried setting up a trace on our firewall using the following syntax:

tcpdump -i <external interface IP of firewall> host <client IP>
/tmp/trace.log

When I run this command, I get the message 

tcpdump: <external interface IP of firewall> :Device not configured

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance for your help guys.
