for the 4.0 version checkpoint has issued licenses for one year. This is to
give you a choice to upgrade to 4.1 or remain at 4.0. You have one year to
choose and notify them of your choice. The license does not need to be
renewed every year but you must make a choice within this year.

Subject: [FW1] License
Hello,
I just purchased a new copy of firewall-1 and after installing the license I
noticed that it had an expiration date of one year. Now on all my prervious
purchases of firewall-1 the licenses had an expiration date of never. Did
checkpoint change something where you now have to reapply for a license
every
year or did my reseller screw up?
Thanks,
Joe
