[FW1] PROXY CACHING

hi

i am new at firewall so sorry for anything ilogical.
i want to do http caching with my firewall-1 and have tried the
http next proxy setting under properties tab.but the packets keep on
jumping between firewall and proxy. everybody is granted permission for
browsing in proxy.

    the proxy machine that i m  using is behind firewall in dmz zone
and has an illegal address only.it's an hp-ux machine with
netscape.proxy.users are accessing internet with firewall-1 as their
proxy. it's default gateway is my firewall
machine . so the only way to get out is thru firewall only. now when i
try to browse thru a client,i specify firewall as proxy in the client
browser. when i try to browse , i m authenticated by firewall but
nothing happens after that and i see the packets jumping between the
proxy and firewall in the status bar.

  should my proxy (the machine that i specify as http next proxy in
firewall) be outside the firewall and have direct connection to
internet to perform caching.should it's default gateway be internet
gateway rathter than my firewall.please explain the exact way to do
this.
